With their long necks and sky-high view, giraffes are unmistakable icons of the savanna. Their skin-covered ossicones (horn-like structures) on their heads are used in “necking” battles between males and play a role in keeping cool. Though they seem untouchable, giraffes are considered vulnerable in the wild as populations decline. Towering, gentle, and endlessly unique, giraffes remind us to stand tall and stand out.
