A deer’s antlers are actually extensions of the animal’s skull. Generally, only male deer have antlers. Deer use their antlers in a number of ways, but most often to attract mates and as tools to fight for territory and for control of harems. While many deer populations thrive in their natural habitat, some deer, like the Key Deer are protected under the Endangered Species Act.
